Dog the Bounty Hunter

As you all know by know i work in alternative education and now i have brought the Dog into teach the young people here is how......

If you have read the section "about me" you will know that i work in an alternative education centre as a personal development support worker (if you don' please read). The young people i work with have serious problems and some haven't been in the mainstream education for up too a year. We at the centre need too help improve not only the young people's education but them as themself as the whole person. For a couple of weeks now i have been trying too get the boys too start to read to help with their english coursework but to no avail. Yesterday (25th sept 2008) at break time we were just all sitting chatting about our favourite TV programme when some of the lads started talking about Dog the bounty hunter, of course i joined in lol. They talked about how they loved the show and how Dog catches the bad guy, one young person turned round and said "if Dog was here i would be ****** i need to get my act together!" I started talking about Dog's past and how he too wasn't a model citzen and how he was in jail for murder one. By this time i had the boy's eated out of my hand and the boy's wanted to know more. They asked how i knew so much and of course i showed them the website and my site and told them i had some DVD's and i also am reading the book. Boom they where hooked "book" they asked all sort's of question's and i was telling them where i had got up to in the book. By this time i chanced my lucky, now these are a bunch of young men 14-16yrs old who have had a very tough life and are born surviours so to even mention let alone try and get them to pick up book has been impossible. I said too them that if they wanted i would go out and buy them all a copy of Dog's book for them to read, but they had to look after it and they had to read it, as i would know if they didn't as i too im reading the book at the moment. Bam, they all jumped at the chance and to be honest they floored me. These lads haven't been brillant at reading so to get them to even think about reading was brillant. So of to the shop's i went and bought 7 copies of the Dog's book. Today (Friday 26th sept 2008) the first thing they asked when they arrived at the centre was "did you get the Dog book Leslie?". As i had the boy's last session of the day i told them i would hand them out then so they could take them home for the weekend plus i had a suprise for them. Last session came, the boy's where waiting on me for a change and their folders out. I told them too put their folder's away as they didn't need them. I started the session, yes you guessed it the session today was "Dog the bounty hunter" past and pesent. We talked about his life, the book, the show. What Dog has done with his life and where he is today. That has given my boy's so much hope. If you know their backgrounds you would understand. I but the books on the table and told whoever wanted a copy to take home and read it if they wanted. Yep no copies where left on the table. So 7 young people who haven't been to school in a very long time, who don't have geart reding and writing skills have taken Dog the book home with them to read. I'm i floored yes, im i amazed yes, will this work do you know what i think it will, here's hoping. Because the boy's worked so hard yesterday and today i let them watch some eppy's from sesson one, now we finish on a friday at 12.15pm, yeah the boy's didn't leave till about 2pm today as they wanted to watch the eppy's. Boom another hit with the Dog lol. I what the young people to understand that no matter what goes on in your life you can still have dreams and never give up hope, keep going. And if Dog the bounty hunter can help me achieve this with my young people from my side of the world, well he is just being himself and doing his job. When i told my big boss what i had done he couldn't believe it. He said "thats why we empolyed you, you know how to reach to these kids without them knowing your doing it, your an education bounty hunter" Well i laughed at that im just being me lol Hopefully this work's, and i get the lads interesting in reading. So that is how i have got Dog into the education system in my education centre. I will keep you posted and let you know if it does work. To the people who are reading this, send your love to my young people so hopefully they will be inspirted by Dog's book.
